Double Chance Betting Explained

Double chance lets you cover two of the three possible results of a football match with one bet. Instead of picking only a home win, a draw or an away win, you back two of them together, which makes the bet more likely to win but pays shorter odds.

The three double chance options

  • 1X: the home team wins or the match is drawn. You lose only if the away team wins.
  • X2: the away team wins or the match is drawn. You lose only if the home team wins.
  • 12: either team wins. You lose only if the match is drawn.

The bet is settled on the result after 90 minutes plus stoppage time; extra time and penalties do not count.

Why double chance odds are lower

Because you are covering two outcomes, the implied probability is higher and the price is lower. A favourite at 1.70 to win might be around 1.20 on 1X. That lower return is the cost of protection against the draw.

When double chance makes sense

Double chance suits matches where you fancy a team not to lose but are worried about a draw, such as a strong home side facing a defensive visitor, or an away team in good form against a struggling opponent. It is also commonly used as a steadier leg in an accumulator.

How to read our double chance tips

Each tip on this page shows the option we are backing (1X, X2 or 12), the odds and the implied probability, along with recent form for both teams. Use the date selector to look ahead or back, and remember that even double chance selections lose when the one uncovered result happens.

Common questions

Is double chance the same as draw no bet? No. With double chance a draw wins your bet (on 1X or X2). With draw no bet, a draw returns your stake instead, and the odds are higher to reflect that.

Which double chance option is most common? 1X on a home side is the most common, because it covers home advantage and the draw. X2 is used when the away team looks stronger.

Does double chance include extra time? No. It is settled on the result after 90 minutes plus stoppage time.

Please bet responsibly. Only stake what you can afford to lose, never chase losses, and remember that betting is for adults aged 18 and over.
